Fayetteville State University Awarded Behavioral Health Grant

Date: February 13, 2018

The University of North Carolina System awarded Fayetteville State University (FSU) a $28,184 grant to enhance and expand the campus’ behavioral and mental health care services. The grant was funded in response to the 2017 UNC System Behavioral Health Convening that addressed the changing behavioral health and wellness needs for all UNC system students.

Funding will support the Fayetteville State University Behavioral Health Initiative (FSUBHI), a cross-campus effort involving Student Health Services, the Center for Personal Development, the College of Education, and the School of Nursing. Led by Co-PIs Letitia Johnson-Arnold, Medical and Health Program Consultant and Melissa Haithcox-Dennis, Associate Professor of Health Education, the initiative includes a Baseline behavioral health assessment; Behavioral health professional development and training; Behavioral health and wellness student programming; and the Enhancement of FSU's existing behavioral health clinical resources.

When asked about the award, Vinette Gordon, Director for Student Health Services, stated: "FSU recognizes that student success is closely linked to health and wellness; therefore, we strive to provide an environment in which students can reach their full potential in all facets of their lives. With this funding we can better prevent, manage, and treat the concerns that impede our students' academic achievement and improve the overall health and wellness of our campus community."
