Transferring Credits
Transfer student transcripts will be evaluated on the basis of the following policies:*
- All transfer credits for courses that can be applied to any FSU degree program and in which a student earned a grade of C or higher will be accepted. Students may appeal exclusions of transfer credits within one year of enrollment. Appeals should be directed to the appropriate academic department.
- Full credit will be awarded only for courses in which a grade of C or higher was earned and are non-remedial or non-developmental.
- Transfer credits will be used to fulfill program requirements or as electives at the discretion of the appropriate department chair and dean.
- Credentials for transfer students will be officially evaluated only after an applicant has been accepted and all official transcript(s) have been received.
- Grades transferred from other institution(s) are not considered in computing the grade point average at Fayetteville State University.
- No more than 64 hours of credit will be awarded for credits earned at a two-year institution unless otherwise authorized by a specific dual enrollment or articulation agreement.
*Due to the extraordinary circumstances created by the outbreak of COVID-19, we will be accepting Pass grades for classes taken during the affected time period.
You can use our Transfer Equivalency Self-Service tool to get an idea of how your credits will transfer to FSU. Learn more about how to use the tool here.
The North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) between the University of North Carolina System and North Carolina Community College System takes precedence over bilateral articulation agreements previously established between Fayetteville State University and North Carolina Community Colleges. The university will accept transfer credits in accordance with the CAA relative to the General Education transfer core; for graduates with the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degree. Transfer credit for the Fine Arts and Applied Science degree courses, general education core courses for non-graduates, and transfer courses not originated at North Carolina Community Colleges will be awarded on a course-by-course basis according to Section V of the CAA.
Transferring from Non-Accredited Institutions
Transfer credits accepted for courses taken from a non-accredited institution are conditional and will not be considered by the Dean of the respective College/School or department chair, nor will they be validated until students have maintained a 2.0 average or higher for two (2) consecutive semesters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our policy states that we must have official transcripts from every college, even if you do not plan on transferring the credits. Part of the admission requirements is a 2.0 average cumulative gpa from all institutions attended so we will need each transcript to make an admission decision. Also, an accepted student is unable to be advised prior to registering for classes if they have not submitted official transcripts from each institution.
You must apply as a transfer student since you are no longer a first-time freshman. Once you are accepted, you may be classified as a freshman.
If you are over the age of 21 you do not need to submit your high school transcript.
As a member of the UNC System, Fayetteville State University will waive the standardized testing requirements for the 2021 application due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, submitting test scores, if available, can contribute to the holistic review of your application.
Nope!
We do not require a certain number of credits - however, after reviewing your application we may contact you about admission requirements that apply to your individual situation. If you do not meet our high school course requirements you may be asked to take specific college courses, or if you have taken developmental courses and did not meet our high school requirements we may request additional college credits. You are welcome to contact one of our transfer counselors if you have any questions about your unique situation.
We are here to help you through the FSU admission process, and can give you a general overview of the academic program. If you have specific questions about a certain program or major we can connect you directly to the department to better get your questions answered.
If you have at least a Bachelor's degree and desire to take undergraduate courses for reasons other than earning a second undergraduate degree, you must apply as a Professional Development student through our Graduate Admissions Office.
Due to the high number of applicants, the Office of Admissions is unable to provide transcript evaluation. The Registrar's Office will complete a transfer credit evaluation after you have been admitted to FSU. When you receive your admission letter, you will also receive contact information for an academic advisor who will be able to assist you in discussing your transfer credit evaluation.
You can also use our Transfer Equivalency Tool to get an idea of how your credits will transfer to FSU.
Congratulations! You need to contact your academic advisor to discuss your transfer credits, declare a major, receive your alternate pin number, and register for classes.
You will still submit the online undergraduate application, and be sure to indicate that you are interested in online degree completion.
Please be aware that as an ODC applicant, your application will go through two separate review processes. Once we receive all required documents, we will make an admission decision within the Office of Admissions based on general university admission requirements. Then we will forward your file to the appropriate ODC program's advisor, who will ensure you meet the program specific admission requirements. Once both offices have completed their review of your application you will receive a letter informing you of our decision.
