Fayetteville State University announced on Tuesday, August 3, that Dr. Juanette Council – a long-time veteran in student leadership and engagement – will be named the new vice chancellor for Student Affairs, effective immediately.

Dr. Council has served more than 30 years in the Division of Student Affairs at FSU and has a proven track record for leading and delivering programs that support student success. In January 2021, she assumed the interim vice chancellor position and continued to provide leadership and guidance to the division.

Prior to that, Dr. Council served as associate vice chancellor for student affairs and business manager, a role she had held since 2003. In her new role, she will continue to provide oversight, support, and direction to the major units within the Division of Student Affairs.

“During her tenure, Dr. Council has demonstrated a true commitment to FSU and our students. She has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and continues to have a vision that supports the university’s mission and strategic goals. Dr. Council has also gained the respect of her colleagues and garnered the admiration from both current and former students throughout her career. I could not have selected a better Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs than Dr. Juanette Council,” said Chancellor Darrell T. Allison.

Dr. Council started her career at FSU in 1990 and rose through ranks gaining experience in supervision of student affairs departments, development of co-curricular programs and budget management.  While at FSU, she has served as the Drug Education and Prevention Coordinator, Director of Student Activities & Student Center, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Since 2003, she has served as a key member of the division’s senior leadership team, providing strategic management and coordination of services, programming and procedures directly impacting the student experience.

“I am excited to work alongside Dr. Council and her team as we integrate academic and student programs and enhance the co-curricular journey of our students,” said Dr. Monica T. Leach, provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Dr. Council earned a bachelor’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, a master’s degree from Hampton University, and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from FSU.
