Fayetteville State Receives Divisional Trophy and All-CIAA Accolades

CIAA Divisional Title

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced the 2019-20 Men's Women's Basketball All-CIAA team, All-Rookie team, and superlatives as selected by the Basketball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association. These standout individuals were formally recognized today during the annual CIAA Tip-Off Awards luncheon.

Three Broncos from the women's team and one from the men received post-season accolades.

Queens of the South

Fayetteville State Chancellor Peggy Valentine, Athletics Director Anthony Bennett, Head Women's Basketball Coach Serena King-Coleman, and captain Shantel Bennett took the stage to receive the CIAA Southern Division title trophy for the Broncos after finishing the season with a 15-2 conference record and going undefeated (12-0) in the division. This is the third time in coach's four-year stint that her program has won the division. Last season, the "Queens of the South" survived all rounds of the tournament until the championship game; finishing as runner-up.

Katisha Hyman

Senior Katisha Hyman (Aurura, NC) was named to the All-CIAA Team Backcourt after averaging 17.2 points this season with 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.7 steals. She scored a career-high 35 points against Pitt-Johnstown and has scored double-digits in 23-of-25 games with 20-or-more points in nine games this season. For her two-season career at FSU, Hyman has a career average of 15.2 points per game with 746 points.

Aminata Johnson

Junior Aminata Johnson (Durham, NC) was named All-CIAA from the frontcourt position. She has averaged 10.6 points per game with 6.1 rebounds. Johnson has a season total of 140 rebounds, 41 blocks, and 14 steals as a 6'4" forward/center.

Shenell Davis

Freshman Shenell Davis (Fayetteville, NC) was recognized as a member of the CIAA All-Rookie Team. Davis was a big contributor off the bench for the Broncos this season with an average of 14.8 minutes each game. The rookie also averaged 3.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for the ten-man roster.

Jalen Seegars All-CIAA

On the men's side, Jalen Seegars (Greensboro, NC) was name to the All-CIAA Team as a frontcourt honoree. Seegars leads the Broncos with an average of 16.4 points and 6.1 rebounds. He has scored double digits in all 25 games played except one. With a career-high 39 points scored against Claflin, Seegars has scored 20-or-more points in six games this season.

The men's program will open CIAA Tournament play for Fayetteville State on Wednesday, February 26 with a 10 am tip-off against Shaw University at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC. The Queens of the South (FSU) will await the winner of the Elizabeth City State vs. Saint Augustine's game on Wednesday with a 2:20 pm tip.
