How to Apply

Eligibility Requirements:

To qualify for the S8 Program, applicants must:
Be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or an eligible non-citizen
Have a demonstrated financial need (as defined for undergraduate students by the U.S. Department of Education criteria for Federal Financial Aid)
Maintain full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 credits per semester) or part-time enrollment (greater than ½ time)
Have and maintain at least a 2.75 GPA
Agree to participate in the S8 Program interventions and activities (please see our Program Interventions Page for full list of activities)
Must be a current or incoming freshman at Fayetteville State University or Fayetteville Technical Community College.
Be majoring in either chemistry or materials science.

The application package for the S8 Program includes the following items.

Complete FAFSA: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To submit a FAFSA application, go to studentaid.gov/. Visit this site for more information: https://www.uncfsu.edu/paying-for-college/fafsa-simplification
Application form: follow the link below to complete.
Essay: An essay written by the applicant (450-500 words, typed, double-spaced) explaining your interest in your field of study, your qualifications and how you will benefit from this award. Submit your essay to s8program@uncfsu.edu.
Test scores: Submit appropriate SAT, ACT, AP or IB scores or demonstrate completion of college level English and Mathematics courses. Submit your scores to s8program@uncfsu.edu.
Letters of Recommendation:
1. Please obtain two letters of recommendation, from the following individuals:
  1. (1) a science or math teacher
  2. (2) an appropriate community member, such as counselor, community leader, school official, coach, or nonprofit leader
2. Use the form below to complete the letters of recommendation, and have them emailed to s8program@uncfsu.edu.
Official high school or college transcript: Submit your transcript to s8program@uncfsu.edu.
