SoTL Application
The Office of Faculty Development is excited to announce the launch of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Hub, a year-long professional development initiative designed to support faculty in engaging with SoTL as a meaningful form of scholarly inquiry.
As part of this launch, we invite Fayetteville State University faculty to apply for the 2025 SoTL Institute—a signature program of the SoTL Hub. This year-long experience will guide a cross-disciplinary cohort of faculty through the full cycle of SoTL research, from developing researchable questions to disseminating findings through publication or conference presentations.
The SoTL Institute provides FSU faculty with the tools, mentorship, and funding needed to design and conduct impactful research on teaching and learning. Participants will deepen their understanding of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Discipline-based Education Research (DBER) while designing and implementing a study focused on their own courses and instructional practices.
From Classroom Practice to Scholarly Impact
This year’s theme encourages faculty to reflect on the creative and adaptive strategies they have implemented in recent years and transform those innovations into scholarly work that can be shared and published.
Program Purpose
The SoTL Institute is designed to support faculty in developing a SoTL or DBER research project from idea to implementation. Over the course of the year, participants will:
- Develop focused, researchable questions about teaching and learning.
- Design a study using quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
- Collect and analyze data to assess instructional practices.
- Receive one-on-one and group mentorship from experienced SoTL scholars.
- Join a community of faculty engaged in educational research
- Access guidance and support for presenting or publishing findings.
Eligibility
All Fayetteville State University faculty members are encouraged to apply.
Program Dates
The SoTL Institute is a one-year commitment beginning with a Kickoff during Spring 2026. Additional program dates will be announced soon.

Faculty Commitment
- Attend monthly workshops and cohort meetings
- Conduct a SoTL project in your course(s)
- Present at the SoTL Showcase and prepare a manuscript or conference proposal
