And you can bet that we'll expect a lot from you - because we know the possibilities and the payoffs for your future are limitless. We have thousands of successful alumni to prove it. We will be actively involved in making the most of your FSU experience.

Bronco Family

Becoming a student at Fayetteville State University means becoming a member of the Bronco family. Our students consistently describe campus as a "family-atmosphere," where classmates, faculty, and staff not only want you to succeed, but want to help you get there.

Attending a small university means you can really get to know your peers. You'll see people you know as you walk between classes and out a campus events. You'll also have strong relationships with your professors. Our student to faculty ratio of 17:1 means your professors will know not just your name, but your story, your goals.

Proud History, Cutting-Edge University

Fayetteville State University dates back to 1867, when seven black men founded the Howard School for the purpose of educating black children. We are proud of being the second-oldest state supported institution in North Carolina.

Though we have come a long way from the single academic building of our founding, we honor our history with our traditions, such as Convocation and the Pinning Ceremony when new students officially become members of the Bronco family.

We continue to build on the proud tradition of excellence at FSU as we strive to stay on the forefront of innovation. Our students conduct cutting-edge research in state-of-the-art facilities; new programs like our certificate in Cyber Security seek to solve modern problems; and we prepare our students for success in a global economy through programs like Global Scholars, foreign language teaching assistants, and study abroad.

Diverse

We are proud to say we are an HBCU with one of the most diverse campuses in the nation.

The Bronco family includes students from different races and ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, goals...you name it. We have students who just graduated high school, as well as students returning to school later in life. Also, for over 30 years we have embraced our military affiliated service members and their families. Some Broncos come to us from just up the street in Fayetteville, while others come from across the U.S. and the world.

At FSU, we want to see what makes you uniquely you. We believe our differences make us stronger, and so we ask, what impact will you have?

Value

It is said that FSU is one of the best kept secrets in North Carolina. As a four year university, Fayetteville State's programs are consistently ranked as among the most affordable in the nation. With one of the lowest tuition rates in the state, we provide a world-class education at a fraction of the price.

At FSU, we believe that cost should never stand in the way of pursuing your education. That's why we offer scholarships and competitive financial aid packages to help you finance your degree. In fact, over 90% of our entering class last year received some type of financial aid.

Campus Life

There is always something happening on FSU's campus. Broncos look forward to big events like Homecoming Week in the fall and Rodeo Week in the spring, while also enjoying speaker series, performances, athletic events, and more. Sometimes it's as simple as free snow cones in the amphitheater on the first day of classes.

Many students also join one (and often more!) of over 100 student organizations on campus. We have everything from department clubs and honor societies to Greek life, intramural sports, and student government.Looking for something a little more specific? We also have organizations like A.U.T.O.S. (for commuter students), Bronco iRadio (our on-campus, student-run radio station), The Green Team (focused on our environmental impact), and the Black Millennium Modeling Club.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff are devoted to academic excellence and to individualizing the student experience. We'll do more than develop your mind. We'll help you chart a course for a successful future. It really is all about you. In fact, just ask our alumni. Their favorable student reviews positioned Fayetteville State as one of only 20 higher education institutions nationwide with exemplary practices, based on results from the National Survey of Student Engagement.
