FSU, Bronco Development Hosted Celebration for Bronco Midtown and Chick-fil-A Ribbon Cutting

Date: September 06, 2024

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (September 6, 2024) – Nearly 300 Fayetteville State University students, faculty and staff, business leaders and community members celebrated the refresh of the Bronco Midtown business center and ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand-new Chick-fil-A on Murchison Road, Friday, Sept. 6, at 8:30 a.m.

“In 2021, FSU announced one of its affiliated entities owned 100% of what was then Bronco Square. A little over a year ago, we announced a vision renovating and rebranding as Bronco Midtown,” FSU Chancellor Darrell T. Allison said in the parking lot with Chick-fil-A as his backdrop. “How does the manifestation of that vision look today,” he asked as the crowd cheered.

Representatives from Congressman David Rouzer’s office, City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County Commissioners, including Mayor Mitch Colvin and Chair of the County Commissioners and FSU Endowment Board member Glenn Adams, delivered remarks acknowledging the achievements and investment in Bronco Midtown.

“I am reminded of two words this morning – promises kept,” said Mayor Colvin. “Over the decades, there have been promises made about Murchison Road and its revitalization. The investments made by the City like Senior Center East, the tennis complex and millions of dollars distributed to businesses on this corridor, all of them are complemented by the vision of Fayetteville State University and Chancellor Allison as an institutional partner in this community.”

“When Chancellor Allison arrived, I told him, ‘If FSU wants to be an integral part of the community, the county will make sure FSU flourishes,'” said Commission Chair Adams. “You see that in the County’s and City’s investment into the HUB because we believe in what FSU is doing.”

Adams was also involved in FSU staking complete ownership of Bronco Midtown as a board of trustee for the Endowment Fund of FSU, which makes up 50% of Bronco Development, LLC.

“What is most exciting is the dollars spent on this property directly and indirectly impacts our students,” Chancellor Allison said pointing at Chick-fil-A, McAlister’s and other Bronco Midtown buildings.

Bronco Midtown is the center of economic transformation along the Murchison Road corridor. The Fayetteville-Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur and Business HUB is at the forefront of the effort. At the event the HUB’s Executive Director, Tamera Colvin, Ph.D., said her team and partners helped secure more than $60 million dollars in contracts for small businesses to date.

“Since its inception in 2022, the HUB has made a profound impact on our community by supporting local minority women and veteran owned businesses and creating a more inclusive economy,” she said. “We have helped award $64 million in contracts, launched 90 new businesses, created over 480 new jobs and hosted more than 8,500 participants inside the hub.”

With fanfare and confetti cannons, Chancellor Allison was joined by representatives from the university’s food services provider Aramark, Chick-fil-A, FSU leaders and students to cut the ribbon in front of FSU’s newest restaurant.
