FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - A Fayetteville State University social work faculty member was selected to participate in the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) Institute at California State University, Long Beach this summer.

Erica Campbell

Erica Campbell, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Social Work, will join 19 other higher education professionals in a virtual 6-day research intensive education and mentoring training program. The goal of CHER is to increase the quantity and quality of health equity research targeting vulnerable racial and ethnic minority populations. The program will foster project-based learning experiences. Participants will work on either their Institute related research proposal development and/or a manuscript utilizing their preliminary data or a secondary data set.

“I am thrilled to be one of 20 participants selected for the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) Institute," said Campbell. "This experience will provide me with the training, knowledge, and insight to become a future NIH principal investigator.”

The CHER Institute is a highly competitive program designed to increase the number of faculty members who are better prepared to become NIH principal investigators in the field of community-engaged biomedical research; with basic, clinical, or behavioral outcomes to eliminate health disparities among racial/ethnic minority populations.
