At Fayetteville State University, preparation goes beyond words. It’s about providing students with real, meaningful support.

“Res Non Verba” - deeds not words - is lived out daily through Bronco pride, a culture rooted in care, accountability, and the understanding that this campus feels more like family than just an institution.

That commitment now extends through FSU’s new partnership with MyCareerCloset, making the institution the first historically Black college and university in North Carolina to provide students with access to a digital, on-demand professional attire platform. The partnership launched Jan. 12.

For students, the impact is immediate. When a career fair, internship interview, graduate school meeting, or first professional opportunity arises, access to professional clothing is no longer a barrier.

Nicole Collins, a career counselor and proud FSU alumna who led the MyCareerCloset initiative, considers the project deeply personal.

“When I was a student here, we didn’t have the privilege of having a business closet for professional attire,” Collins said. “So being able to help build this now for our students really matters.”

That sense of purpose fueled two years of revitalizing the physical Career Closet in the Rudolph Jones Student Center. Made possible by donations from alumni, faculty, staff, and community members, the space offers students in-person support and access to professional clothing at no cost.

But Collins noticed not all students could take advantage of the on-campus resource. “I’m always listening to our students,” she said. “And there was still a gap in accessibility.”

For online learners, commuting students, or those living outside Fayetteville, visiting campus isn’t always an option. That gap led to the partnership of MyCareerCloset.

Now, students can access professional attire remotely. They begin on the MyCareerCloset portal by clicking “Book Now.” They enter their contact and payment information or use a voucher if available, then schedule a one-on-one appointment with a professional stylist. During the session, the stylist selects clothing based on the student’s goals, size, and style.

Within five to seven business days, a personalized box of professional attire arrives at their door. Students have 30 days to use the items. When the trial period ends, they can either purchase the clothing or return it—no laundering or dry cleaning required.

Even after the initial consultation, students can connect with their stylist for ongoing advice on fashion, accessorizing, and making the most of each look. The service costs about $60, with financial assistance available to help ensure affordability.

Rather than replacing the on-campus Career Closet, MyCareerCloset builds on it. Students who prefer in-person help can keep using the physical space. Those who need flexibility, personalized styling, or remote access now have another option. Both resources are designed to eliminate obstacles so students can move forward confidently.

“If we’re teaching students what’s expected professionally, we have to provide the resources to support that,” Collins said.

That belief shapes FSU’s approach to student success.

At FSU, preparing students for life after graduation means more than helping them earn a degree. It means showing up when it matters and ensuring every Bronco has the confidence to step forward when opportunity arises. That is “Res Non Verba” in action.

Students can access MyCareerCloset through FSU’s dedicated portal. For additional guidance or information about financial assistance, students may contact the Office of Career Services or visit Career Services located at RJSC 127 and 206.
