University Commencement

It’s time for Commencement! Graduates please bring your name card, arrive one hour ahead of your ceremony, enter Capel through the door under the outside stairs, and report to the basketball court to line up for the procession.

We are looking forward to hosting the 2021 Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 8, at the Luther “Nick” Jeralds Stadium on FSU’s campus. In an effort to keep our Bronco community safe during the ongoing pandemic, we have modified the ceremony to remain in compliance with state COVID-19 protocols. This year FSU will host two commencement ceremonies. Undergraduate and graduate students will participate together. The ceremony that you attend will be determined by your academic college. Graduates will walk across the stage and professional photography will be provided. Additionally, we are pleased to offer 2020 graduates the opportunity to participate in the 2021 Spring Commencement as space is available.

Additional Information

Obtaining Commencement Name Cards and Guest Tickets

All graduates must have a commencement name card to attend a ceremony. Graduates must pick up a name card and guest tickets on the 2nd floor of Capel Arena on one of the dates/times listed below. The Latin honor medallions will be available as well for eligible students. Students will be informed if they are eligible to pick up a medallion when names cards are received. Alumni who complete a short survey will receive a free t-shirt. While times are listed for the day of commencement, we strongly recommend obtaining your materials on one of the earlier dates.

Americana Cords for Veterans, Active-Duty Service Members, Reserves, and National Guard

The Student Veterans Center will issue Americana Cords on May 5, 6, and 8. Please see the additional information, below.

  • Veterans, Active-Duty Service Members, Reserves, and National Guard will receive the Americana Cord.
  • Current Student Veteran Association Members (SVA) {meaning annual dues are paid} will receive the SVA coin, and SVA pen.
  • SVA members, may choose to purchase the SVA stole for $22, if you have met the requirements of attending three meetings and participated in three SVA events, and all dues are paid up to date.
  • Spouses and Dependents who utilize GI BILL benefit will receive a gift.
  • Items will be available for pick up and/or purchase at the Student Veterans Center (SVC), Bronco Square, suite 102 on the following dates below. Masks are required.
    • Wednesday, May 5, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
    • Thursday, May 6, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
    • Saturday, May 8, 9 a.m. - Noon

Graduates will receive up to two (2) guest tickets each. Children may attend the ceremony. Children 4 years old and older must have a ticket to attend. Children 3 years old and younger do not need a ticket to attend if they will sit on a ticketed guest’s lap for the entire ceremony.

Health Screening Questionnaire

To ensure the health and safety of all participants, Graduates must complete the Questionnaire (below or via this link) prior to picking up commencement items and guest tickets. FSU Student Health Services will review the responses and be available for any health-related concerns.


There will be no rehearsal prior to the day of the Commencement ceremonies. Graduates will be given direction once they arrive for their ceremony. Graduates will line up one hour before the ceremonies start.

Day-of-Ceremony Logistics for Graduates

Graduates will line up one hour prior to your ceremony start time. A complete order of ceremony will be published as details are finalized.


The commencement ceremony is a time for celebration, yet dignity. All participants must wear formal academic regalia. Commencement will be outside, in the football stadium, and it might be warm, so please consider the weather as you determine what to wear under your regalia. We ask that you remain dressy and appropriate for the occasion, yet comfortable. Please avoid heels or shoes that will damage the turf.

Bachelor and master’s regalia (gown, hood, cap, tassel) can be purchased at the Broncos Spirit Shop in the Rudolph Jones Student Center, (910) 672-1342. Doctoral candidates who do not have doctoral regalia should contact the College of Education for assistance, Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm, at (910) 672-1265.

  • Bachelor Package: (Cap, Gown, Hood and Tassel): $94.16*
  • Master’s Package (Cap, Gown, Hood and Tassel): $107.00*
  • Tax is included in the pricing. Pricing does not include stoles​​​.

If graduates would like to have your regalia shipped, please contact us at 910-672-1341. Shipping costs are as follows: UPS Ground (5-7 business days)- $7.49, UPS 2Day- $13.99, and UPS Express/Overnight- $19.99. Any shipping orders processed after 1:00 p.m. will not ship until following day​​​​.


Both ceremonies will take place rain or shine. All attendees are encouraged to bring a poncho as umbrellas are not allowed. In the event of severe weather, to include lightning, ceremonies may be delayed or cancelled. In the event of a delay or cancellation due to weather, students will be notified via email 2 hours prior to the ceremony and this webpage will be updated.


Parking will be available on campus and lots will open two (2) hours prior to each ceremony. Campus map. There are a limited number of handicapped accessible parking spots in LOT K. Please display your valid handicapped permitand plan to arrive when the lots open to secure a spot. Attendees who need to drop off or pick up those with medical concerns without a valid handicapped parking placard will be allowed to do so. Once various lots are to capacity, those wishing to park will be directed to other available parking throughout the campus. Please be reminded that traffic at some locations (on and off campus) will be congested and Police and Public Safety will work diligently to ensure safety and security for this celebratory event. Tailgating prior to and after the ceremonies is not permitted. Due to limited parking and the event venue being cleaned between ceremonies, we request that you and your guests continue your celebration off campus after the ceremony. Please do not leave cars behind on campus.

COVID-19 Health and Safety Precautions

Know the 3 Ws: Wear-Wait-Wash

In an effort to comply with state COVID-19 protocols, FSU requires all attendees (graduates, guests and employees) to wear face masks, remain 6 feet apart, and use hand sanitizer. Graduates must wear a mask to participate in the ceremony. Guest seating will be provided in clusters of two with 6’ increments. No more than two guests may sit together. Stadium Policy

No form of smoking is allowed.
Guests 4 years old or older must have a ticket.
Re-entry into the stadium is not allowed.
Items may not be stored by the gates.

Prohibited Items:

  • Coolers, ice chests, cans, cups, or containers of any kind.
  • Outside Food and drinks
  • Illegal drugs or alcohol
  • Backpacks of any kind
  • Purses larger than 8-1/2" x 11"
  • Umbrellas, attendees are encouraged to bring ponchos in case of rain
  • Artificial noisemakers
  • Pets, except for service animals
  • Weapons of any kind, including pocket-knives, multi-function tools, and any items deemed to be inappropriate
  • Banners, flags, poles, balloons or any other item that will block the view of other attendees
  • Oversized portable stadium seats, or other objects that can impede the comfort of others
