Risk Management & Insurance Program
The Mission of the Risk Management and Insurance Concentration in the Broadwell College of Business and Economics is to familiarize students with all aspects of Risk Management and Insurance, build collaborative partnerships with government and private sector firms, and create opportunities for internships and employment.
The Risk Management and Insurance Concentration will equip students with the knowledge and skills in corporate risk management, life and health insurance, property and liability insurance, financial planning, and employee benefits. The Concentration is developed to prepare students with the skills to identify risks, analyze their impacts and develop mitigation plans.
Graduates are prepared for employment in the areas of insurance agency work, selling and servicing insurance products, financial risk assessments, and entry-level positions such as insurance underwriters and claims/loss adjusters; risk management professionals with employment opportunities that include corporate risk analyst, loss control specialist, and claims manager.
This Program is housed in the Department of Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration and Information Systems and Business Analytics. Students enrolled in the various degree programs in the Broadwell College of Business and Economics (BCBE) can complete the Risk Management and Insurance Concentration as the skills and knowledge gained are applicable to all businesses and industries.

Experiential Focus
Opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom are available through the college’s internships, careers and international programs. Outside of Career services events, students can participate in Corporate Days during the academic year and a Foundations of Insurance Immersion program, which provides career development workshops, awards upon completion, and opportunities to interview for paid internships and employment in risk management and insurance. This program can also lead to licensure or certification in North Carolina. Experiential learning is also enhanced through networking and leadership opportunities through student organizations and industry-specific events.

Numerous jobs are available in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI). Recent statistics show that the number of graduates from RMI programs met only 10-15 percent of the industry’s needs.
