Department of Psychology
Mission
The overall mission of the Department of Psychology is to provide students with competitive and comprehensive instruction to prepare for a range of post-baccalaureate educational and career opportunities. We serve a culturally, racially, and economically diverse population of civilian and military learners from southeastern North Carolina, around the nation, and across the globe. Among Historically Black Colleges and Universities, we have taken the academic lead by pioneering an online undergraduate degree completion program in psychology. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree program, with options to concentrate in health psychology or work and organizational psychology, through campus-based and online programs; an online Master of Arts degree in general psychology; and graduate certificates in behavioral research and professional psychology.
The Department of Psychology online degree program was ranked #1 among online degree programs by Affordable Colleges Online (ACO) for the year 2015-2016. Previously, the program was ranked in the top 25 for the year 2014-2015. Given that the department has no affiliation with ACO, we are honored that they have recognized our contributions to online education. According to ACO, our program ranks high above others in terms of academic rigor, student support, and affordability for online learning. This is a clear indication of the excellence and quality delivered by our online program.
