Dr. Eugenie Alemida

Dr. Eugenie Almeida received both her MA and PhD in Communication from the University of Buffalo. She worked full-time for a few years and then worked part-time for several years so that her husband, a Professor of Computer Science, could get established. After he got established, she worked at Drexel University of one year and Marshall University for one year before coming to Fayetteville's Department of Performing and Fine Arts as a Communication Professor. She played a major role in designing the BA in Communication for Fayetteville State University which was approved in 2010. She has served as the Assistant Chair of the Department of Communication.

Dr. Almeida is the primary teacher of Communication Theory for the department, but she also teaches Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Communication, Gender and Communication, and Nonverbal Communication. As an expert in Content Analysis and Discourse Analysis, she also teaches Communication Research and has taken several students to conferences with her to present the research they did in her research class. She sponsored undergraduate research in Communication for several years through FSU's McNair project and has co-authored two journal articles with two of her students.

Dr. Almeida has published many journal articles and presented even more research papers at various conferences including the National Communication Association, International Communication Association, Southern States Communication Association, and Carolinas Communication Association. She has published articles in the journals Text, Communication Education, International Journal of Communication and several other journals. She has also published her dissertation as a book.
