During Graduate Education Week, three Fayetteville State University (FSU) graduate student representatives discussed the impact of their graduate research on the state with other representatives from FSU and across the state of North Carolina.

Samantha Harvey, Tiffany Evans, Allison D. Peele, and Alison Van Nyhuis attend Graduate Education Day 2022. Samantha Harvey, a native of Pennsylvania, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania before pursuing a Master of Science in Criminal Justice at FSU. For her graduate research, she surveyed law enforcement personnel regarding support for animal offender registries to provide insight into a practical tool that can be implemented to deter crime and protect animals in society.

Tiffany Evans, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Finance & Investments from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island before joining FSU’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and the SAP Academy. Her MBA research focused on North Carolina’s C-Suite corporate and entrepreneurial opportunities for recent graduates and military families that exceed cost-of-living ratios.

Allison D. Peele, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at FSU and a Master of Education in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education from UNC Greensboro before returning to FSU to pursue her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. By researching student retention for African American students and the student perspective of cultural capital, she hopes to provide methods to improve higher education’s holistic, student-centered landscape. During Graduate Education Day in Raleigh on May 24, FSU’s graduate student representatives participated in activities in the legislative building, including a legislative process overview and the North Carolina Council of Graduate Schools’ presentation of awards to recognize Senators Ballard and Blue for their support of graduate education.
