Institutional Scholarships
Scholarships are a reward for academic excellence to support a student's education. Alumni, parents and friends, as well as, corporations and foundations support the more than 100 scholarship funds administered by FSU and awarded by the scholarship committee. Please submit scholarship applications by the appropriate deadline.
Requirements
In order to be considered for FSU Scholarships, the applicant must meet all of the following requirements:
- Complete the FAFSA Application at studentaid.gov/.
- Be a currently enrolled degree seeking student at FSU, or applied and been accepted for admission.
- Must be enrolled full-time.
- Demonstrate potential for making positive contributions to the FSU community.
- Have a minimum GPA as indicated below: Submit a completed online application and two letters of recommendation.
- New Students admitted to FSU -3.0 GPA
- Continuing Undergraduate Students - 3.0 GPA
- Continuing Graduate Students - 3.5 GPA
Additional Information
- Incomplete applications, and/or applications without two letters of recommendation, will not be considered.
- The scholarship committee will consider applicants for all scholarships for which they are eligible. To be considered for any of the FSU Endowment scholarships, the applicant will only be required to complete one online application.
- Prior to starting the online application, the applicant will need to have the Name and Email Addresses of two individuals he or she wishes to use as a reference, who can give an accurate assessment of his or her qualifications.
- The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final.
- The total amount of the scholarship awarded, combined with other grants and awards, will not exceed the cost of tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board. Lastly, because this scholarship (as well as any other FSU scholarship) is a source of institutional funds, it cannot generate a refund on your behalf. This could result in the scholarship amount being reduced.
2026-27 Scholarship Portal will open October 31, 2025! Institutional Scholarship deadline is March 1, 2026!
Please Note: By submitting the General Scholarship Application, you will automatically be considered for all endowed scholarships for which you are eligible at the time of submission.
Institutional funds are not eligible for refunds. As a result, institutional scholarships may be adjusted or reduced to ensure that no refund is issued.
FTCC Keen Scholarship
The FTCC Keen Scholarship is a scholarship for FTCC students that will provide a seamless transition for matriculating students to Fayetteville State University.
To qualify for this scholarship, an individual must:
- have earned an associate degree from FTCC
- have a minimum GPA of at least 2.8
- meet all requirements for admissions to FSU
- enroll in at least 12 credits or more
Priority will be given to high demand work-force majors such as Nursing, Business Analytics, Intelligence Studies, and Cybersecurity.
The FTCC Keen scholarship is a onetime award for first time Transfer students with a conferred Associate degree.
Reminder: Students are considered for the FTCC Keen scholarship upon admission and this is a nonrefundable scholarship.

Description and Qualifications
The Military Tuition Scholarship is designed to provide free tuition to Fayetteville State University (FSU) undergraduate students who are military-affiliated, including active-duty service members, veterans, spouses, and dependents.
Any remaining tuition balance after the application of VA educational benefits or Tuition Assistance will be covered by this scholarship—up to $500 per semester for in-state students and up to
$2,500 per semester for out-of-state students.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be an active-duty service member, National Guard/Reserves member, veteran with an honorable discharge, or a military spouse or dependent
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 from an accredited high school or university
- Submit all required application materials to FSU in a timely manner
- Meet all admissions requirements for FSU
Returning students must:
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Submit their application on time
This scholarship is renewable for past recipients; however, students must reapply each year and continue to meet all eligibility requirements.
Eligibility criteria
To be considered for the Military Tuition Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be admitted to an undergraduate degree-seeking program
- Enroll in at least 12 credit hours
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Submit the scholarship application with proof of military by the deadline
- Complete the Federal Application For Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete an Affirmation Form upon request
Important Notes:
- This is a last-dollar scholarship, awarded only after all other grants and scholarships have been applied.
- It cannot generate a refund and is subject to reduction to prevent one.
- Students pursuing a second undergraduate degree are not eligible for the Military Tuition Scholarship.
Merit Scholarships
Merit Scholarships are awarded at three levels: Platinum Bronco, Gold Bronco, and Silver Bronco.
No additional application is required—first-time freshmen are automatically considered upon admission to FSU.
These scholarships are renewable for up to four years!
Scholarship Levels
Platinum Bronco
- Unweighted High School GPA: 3.75+
- Award: $5,000 per academic year
Gold Bronco
- Unweighted High School GPA: 3.50–3.74
- Award: $3,000 per academic year
Silver Bronco
- Unweighted High School GPA: 3.20–3.49
- Award: $2,000 per academic year
Additional Information
- Merit Scholarships are awarded based on unweighted high school GPA for freshmen and cumulative college GPA for transfer students at the time of admission.
- Awards will continue to be distributed until funding is depleted.
- This is a last-dollar scholarship, awarded only after all other grants and scholarships have been applied.
- It cannot generate a refund and is subject to reduction to prevent one.
Description and Qualifications
Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the S-STEM Program (Award Number: 2322362), the FSU S8 Program is committed to increasing the number of academically talented, low-income students with demonstrated financial need who pursue degrees in science.
The program supports students enrolled in:
- An associate degree in science at Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC)
- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or materials science at Fayetteville State University (FSU)
Over a six-year period, the FSU S8 Program will award scholarships to 40 unique students. First-year recipients may receive a renewable, last-dollar scholarship of up to $15,000 per academic year for full-time students and up to $7,500 for part-time students, renewable for four to six years.
Scholarship funds may be used to cover:
- Tuition and fees
- Room and board (or housing and food allowance for off-campus students)
- Books and supplies
- Computer/laptop equipment
- Transportation
- Dependent care
- Mandatory health insurance
- Costs related to disability
- Miscellaneous educational expenses
In addition to financial support, the FSU S8 Program provides comprehensive academic, personal, and professional development opportunities to prepare students for graduate school or careers in STEM—particularly in chemistry and materials science.
Program activities and interventions include:
- Active learning classrooms and inquiry-based labs
- Attendance at scientific conferences
- Career counseling
- Cohort course scheduling
- Computational thinking activities
- Faculty and peer mentoring
- Field trips to graduate schools and chemical industries
- On- and off-campus undergraduate research experiences
- Participation in student clubs
- Peer tutoring
- Professional and personal enrichment seminars
- Summer bridge program
- Summer internships
- Technical skill-building workshops
Eligibility Criteria – FSU S8 Program
To qualify for the FSU S8 Program and receive the NSF S-STEM Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen
- Demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA application
- Have a minimum high school GPA of 2.75
- Be a full-time or part-time student at Fayetteville State University (FSU) or Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) starting in Fall 2025
- Pursue an associate degree in science at FTCC or a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or materials science at FSU
- Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher to remain in the program
- Agree to actively participate in the FSU S8 Program interventions and activities listed above
How to Apply – FSU S8 Program
The application package for the FSU S8 Program must include the following items. All materials—except the FAFSA and the letter of recommendation—should be attached to the application form and submitted together.
- FAFSA: Complete the 2024–2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. For more information, visit FSU’s FAFSA Simplification page.
- Application Form: Complete the form using the link provided below.
- Essay: Submit a typed, double-spaced essay (450–500 words) describing your interest in your field of study, your qualifications, and how you will benefit from this scholarship.
- Test Scores: Provide SAT, ACT, AP, or IB scores, or demonstrate completion of college-level English and mathematics courses.
- Letter of Recommendation: Instructions for submitting the letter are included in the application form.
- Official Transcript: Submit an official high school or college transcript.
