Institutional Scholarships
Scholarships are a reward for academic excellence to support a student's education. Alumni, parents and friends, as well as, corporations and foundations support the more than 100 scholarship funds administered by FSU and awarded by the scholarship committee. Please submit scholarship applications by the appropriate deadline.
Requirements
In order to be considered for FSU Scholarships, the applicant must meet all of the following requirements:
- Complete the FAFSA Application at studentaid.gov/.
- Be a currently enrolled degree seeking student at FSU, or applied and been accepted for admission.
- Must be enrolled full-time.
- Demonstrate potential for making positive contributions to the FSU community.
- Have a minimum GPA as indicated below: Submit a completed online application and two letters of recommendation.
- New Students admitted to FSU -3.0 GPA
- Continuing Undergraduate Students - 3.0 GPA
- Continuing Graduate Students - 3.5 GPA
Additional Information
- Incomplete applications, and/or applications without two letters of recommendations, will not be considered.
- The scholarship committee will consider applicants for all scholarships for which they are eligible. To be considered for any of the scholarships listed below, the applicant will only be required to complete one online application.
- Prior to starting the online application, the applicant will need to have the Name and Email Addresses of two individuals, he or she wishes to use as a reference, who can give an accurate assessment of his or her qualifications.
- The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final.
- The total amount of the scholarship awarded, combined with other grants and awards, will not exceed the cost of tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board. Lastly, because this scholarship (as well as any other FSU scholarship) is a source of institutional funds, it cannot generate a refund on your behalf. This could result in the scholarship amount being reduced.

FTCC Keen Scholarship
The FTCC Keen Scholarship is a scholarship for FTCC students that will provide a seamless transition for matriculating students to Fayetteville State University.
To qualify for this scholarship, an individual must:
- have earned an associate degree from FTCC
- have a minimum GPA of at least 2.8
- meet all requirements for admissions to FSU
- Enroll in at least 12 credits or more
Priority will be given to high demand work-force majors such as Nursing, Business Analytics, Intelligence Studies, and Cybersecurity.
The FTCC Keen scholarship is a onetime award for first time Transfer students with conferred Associate degree.

Description and Qualifications
The purpose of the Military Tuition scholarship is to provide free tuition to Fayetteville State University (FSU) undergraduate students who are military-affiliated (active-duty military, veterans, spouses and dependents). Any additional tuition remaining after the use of VA educational benefits or Tuition Assistance will be covered by the military tuition scholarships (up to $500 for in-state military connected undergraduate students, per semester and up to $2500 for out-of-state military connected undergraduate students, per semester).
To qualify for this scholarship, an individual must (1) be an active-duty service member, member of the National Guard/Reserves, veteran with an honorable discharge, or military spouse or dependent, (2) have a GPA of at least 2.5 from an accredited university or high school, (3) timely submit all application materials to FSU, (4) meet all requirements for admissions to FSU.
Returning students must have at least a 2.5 GPA, maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress, and submit their application in a timely fashion. This scholarship is renewable to past recipients, but you must apply each year and continue to meet the requirements.
Eligibility criteria
In order to be considered for the Military Tuition Scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Be admitted to an Undergraduate Degree Seeking Program
- Enroll in at least 12 credits or more
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Submit proof to Fayetteville State University of military connection
- Complete an Affirmation form upon request
- Maintain 2.5 or higher GPA
Merit Scholarships are awarded at three levels: Platinum Bronco, Gold Bronco, and Silver Bronco. No additional application is required! First-time freshmen are considered when admitted to FSU. These scholarships are also renewable for up to 4 years!
Platinum Bronco
- Unweighted HS GPA: 3.75+
- $5,000 per academic year
Gold Bronco
- Unweighted HS GPA: 3.50-3.74
- $3,000 per academic year
Silver Bronco
- Unweighted HS GPA: 3.2-3.49
- $2,000 per academic year
Merit Scholarships will continue to be awarded until funding is depleted. Merit Scholarships are awarded based on unweighted high school GPA (freshmen) or cumulative college GPA (transfers) at the time of admission to FSU.
Student-Centered Strategies, Scholarships, and Support Services for Student Success in Sciences Program (S8 Program) Provides NSF S-STEM Scholarship
Funded by the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarships (S-STEM) Program (Award Number: 2322362), the FSU S8 Program is dedicated to increasing the number of academically talented, low-income students with demonstrated financial need. The FSU S8 Program supports students pursuing an associate degree in science at Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) or a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or materials science at Fayetteville State University (FSU).
Over its six-year duration, the FSU S8 Program will provide scholarships to 40 unique students. First-year students will receive a renewable, last-dollar scholarship up to $15,000 per academic year for full-time students and up to $7,500 for part-time students for four to six years. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, room and board (or a housing and food allowance for off-campus students), books and supplies, computer/laptop equipment, transportation, dependent care, mandatory health insurance, costs related to disability, and miscellaneous expenses.
In addition to providing scholarships, the FSU S8 Program offers robust academic, personal, and professional development to equip them for graduate school or careers in STEM fields, with a particular focus on chemistry and materials science.
The FSU S8 Program interventions and activities include 1) active learning classrooms and inquiry-based labs, 2) attendance at scientific conferences, 3) career counseling, 4) cohort course scheduling, 5) computational thinking activities, 6) faculty and peer mentoring, 7) field trips to graduate schools and chemical industries, 8) on- and off-campus undergraduate research experience, 9) participation in student clubs, 10) peer tutoring, 11) professional and personal enrichment seminars, 12) summer bridge program, 13) summer internship, 14) technical skill-building workshops.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, the applicant must:
- Be a US citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen.
- Have a financial need (complete the FAFSA application).
- Have a minimum high school GPA of 2.75.
- Be a full-time or part-time student at FSU or FTCC starting in Fall 2025.
- Pursue an associate degree in science at FTCC or a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or materials science at FSU.
- Must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher to remain in the program.
- Must agree to participate in the FSU S8 Program interventions and activities listed above.

- Essay: An essay written by the applicant (450-500 words, typed, double-spaced) explaining your interest in your field of study, your qualifications and how you will benefit from this award.
- Test scores: Submit appropriate SAT, ACT, AP or IB scores or demonstrate completion of college level English and Mathematics courses.
- Letter of recommendation: information for completing the letter of recommendation is included in the application form.
- Official high school or college transcript.
