*Re-admission of Servicemembers and Reservist: You are considered a military readmit student if you have previously attended FSU but have not been enrolled for either a fall or spring semster. Steps to Completing the Undergraduate Admissions Process

(The $50 Admissions application fee is waived for Active Duty Service and Veterans Members - Do Not Send Payment)

  1. Apply to Fayetteville State University
  2. Click on "New User"
  3. Create an Account
  4. Login and Complete the Application
  5. Click on "Check or Money Order" as your payment method to submit the Application (do not send payment).  

*All applicants are required to complete the North Carolina Residency Form.

Steps to Completing North Carolina Residency Form

  1. Create an account
  2. Complete and Proofread the Profile Information
  3. Say "YES" to claiming NC Residency (if you are active duty member stationed in NC or a dependent/spouse of an active duty member stationed in NC)
  4. Say "YES" to using your military status to determine your tuition rates.
  5. Upload a copy of the active duty member's orders showing that he/she is stationed at a permanent duty station in NC by the deadline date indicated by RDS
  6. Write down the RCN# (Number) for future reference
  7. Make sure the Tuition Status Says 'In-State', if not contact the RDS Office immediately.

Military Tuition Assistance

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is a government benefit paid to current members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard to assist with tuition expenses at a higher education institution. Below is information on the process to request Military Tuition Assistance.

Basic steps for requesting Tuition Assistance

  1. Speak with the local Education Office to ensure you are eligible for Tuition Assistance.
  2. Follow the instructions provided by the Education Office on how to request Tuition Assistance for your course(s) for your school including attending any required briefings.
  3. The military approves your Tuition Assistance (TA) request(s).
  4. Register for your courses at FSU and then request Tuition Assistance (TA) in the military portal for the same courses with the correct day(s) and time(s) at least 7 days before the first day of classes.  (Most portals open 60 days before the first day of class).
  5. Verify Student Accounts has received your approved Tuition Assistance (TA) to process.
  6. Student Accounts (specifically, the Third Party Billing office) posts the TA (tuition assistance) credit to your account.  

Class Fees

Tuition Assistance (TA) usually pays for tuition and will not pay for fees. The student is responsible for paying fees to their school.  If you have financial aid such as Pell grant, loans, or specific scholarships, you can use the resource to pay for your fees, otherwise you will have to pay out of pocket.

Grades

The student will be responsible to repay any Tuition Assistance (TA) funds received for grades that are not considered passing. The following grades are acceptable and will not be recouped:

  • Undergraduate: Grade of 'C' or higher
  • Graduate: Grade of 'B' or higher

Withdrawals and Refunds

If you withdraw officially from the University, your refund is subject to the Unviersity Withdrawal Policy. The purpose of student refunds is to reimburse students for monies paid in escess of tuition and fees. For more detailed information, visit the Student Accounts webpage.

Withdrawal for Extenuating Circumstances

Students may withdraw from individual courses or from the university for extenuating circumstances without the following academic penalty:

  • WU will be recorded on the transcript;
  • Course(s) count in attempted hours;
  • Course(s) do not count for tuition surcharge;
  • Course(s) do not count in GPA calculations;
  • Course(s) will not count toward the withdrawal maximum of 16 hours;
  • Course(s) are subject to Title IV regulation (SAP rules and calculations).

Extenuating circumstances include:

  • Military Service Obligation: Duty on a voluntary or involuntary basis in connection with service in the Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard including, but not limited to active duty, active duty for training, initial active duty for training, and inactive duty training.
  • Serious Medical Debilitation of the Student: Illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition requiring inpatient care in a hospital, hospice, or residential medical care facility.

Documentation required includes:

  • Military Service Obligation: Verification of the student's voluntary or involuntary basis in connection with service in the Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard including, but not limited to, active duty for training, initial active duty for training, and inactive duty training. Acceptable documentation may include, for example, copies of orders, letters from a commanding officer, etc.
  • Serious Medical Debilitation of the Student: A certificate issued by the treating health care professional(s) stating each of the following:
    • Approximate date on which the student's condition began;
    • Extent to which the condition has impacted the student's pursuit of a degree;
    • Relevant and appropriate medical facts regarding the student's conditio

  • Must be on Active Duty or "Activated Reservist" status
  • Annual aggregate limit of $4,500 per fiscal year

MyCAA Tuition Assistance

MyCAA (My Career Advancement Account) Tuition Assistance covers tuition for eligible military spouses. To determine if you are eligible, view the benefit information on the MyCAA Portal or contact a counselor directly at (800) 342-9647.

  • Spouses of Active Duty or Activated National Guard/Reserve members (pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2) may qualify
  • Must be on seeking a certificate or licensure
  • May pay from $2,000 to $4,000 total
  • Does not cover fees such as books, insurance, etc.

Navy Tuition Assistance

To determine if you are eligible for this benefit, view the benefit information on the U. S. Navy College website.

  • Cover Up to $250 per credit hour
  • Must be on Active Duty or "Activated Reserve"
  • Annual aggregated limit up to $4,500 per year

Military Tuition Scholarship

                    Fayetteville State University Military Scholarship   

The purpose of the military scholarship is to provide free tuition to Fayetteville State University (FSU) undergraduate students who are military-affiliated (active-duty military, veterans, spouses and dependents).  

Fayetteville State University will provide a framework to facilitate communication and cooperation involving students with VA educational benefits or Tuition Assistance by DOD and/or will be required to use such benefits first to pay for tuition and fees. Any additional tuition remaining after the use of VA educational benefits or Tuition Assistance will be covered by the military tuition scholarships (up to $500 for in-state military connected undergraduate students, per semester and up to $2500 for out-of-state military connected undergraduate students, per semester). Fayetteville State University will offer military-affiliated scholarships each academic year beginning in Fall 2022.

To qualify for this scholarship, an individual must (1) meet all requirements for admissions to FSU, (2) have a GPA of at least 2.5 from an accredited university or high school, (3) be an active-duty service member, member of the National Guard/Reserves, veteran with an honorable discharge, or military spouse or a dependent, (4) seeking an undergraduate degree at FSU  (4) enrolled in 12 hours as a full-time student, (5) and submit all application materials to FSU before the deadline date.
