Dr. Derrick Bullard
Assistant Chair
Dr. Derrick Bullard is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Physical, and Secondary Education and currently serves as the Assistant Chair of the department. He brings more than a decade of experience in higher education. His research centers on motor learning skills for P–12 students, with a growing interest in leveraging AI-based teaching resources to support K–12 physical educators.
Dr. Bullard earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He later completed his Doctor of Education with a concentration in Higher Education at Fayetteville State University.
Before assuming his current role, Dr. Bullard worked as a Physical Education Teacher in Cumberland County Schools and as a Fitness Specialist at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. For over ten years, he has been a dedicated advocate for youth development through coaching, teaching, and fostering community engagement in recreational programs.
