Dr. Kendra Hancock

Assistant Professor

Dr. Kendra Hancock joined Fayetteville State University in the Fall of 2023. Dr. Hancock serves as the Sport Management Program Coordinator.

Prior to joining FSU, Dr. Hancock worked at Campbell University in Student-Athlete Support, where she helped Camel student-athletes to achieve success in the classroom. She oversaw the tutorial and study hall coordination and provided academic assistance for various athletic teams. Dr. Hancock coordinated the community engagement initiatives for the Campbell Athletics department, which include community projects with the Boys and Girls Club, Camels in the Classroom, Miracle League and the Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine prom. She assisted in planning the end of the year awards banquet, the Cammy’s, the welcome back dinner and other special events. She coordinated the Academic Achievement Night, assisted with the Letterman Awards and supply checkout. Hancock served on the Community Engagement Advisory Board and worked closely with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She taught Exercise and Sport Science classes and Campbell University Freshman Seminar.

Prior to her move to Campbell, Hancock was a part of the Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she completed her master’s degree. Before attending graduate school, Kendra served as the College Sport Research Institute Office Manager and as Assistant Athletics Equipment Manager for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She spent four seasons as an Operations Assistant for the Durham Bulls: the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Before arriving in Chapel Hill, Kendra served as an Athletics Intern at Villanova University.  She had the opportunity to serve all varsity athletics teams and work directly with the head coaches and administration. While at EKU, she served as Head Manager for the EKU Men’s Basketball team, which she worked under head coaches Travis Ford and Jeff Neubauer. The team won the Ohio Valley Conference in 2005 and 2007, playing UK and UNC in the NCAA tournaments. Kendra graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in May 2007, with dual bachelor’s degrees in Education and Sport Management.

Kendra completed her Master of Arts in Sport Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011. She earned her Doctor of Education in Global Sport Leadership from East Tennessee State University in May 2022.

In her free time, she enjoys working as a game day operations supervisor for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also serves on graduate student thesis committees for the Sport Administration graduate program. Dr. Hancock has presented several times at the Scholarly Conference on College Sport, hosted by the College Sport Research Institute in Columbia, South Carolina. Her research areas include team culture, organizational culture, Global Sport Leadership, Student-Athlete Advocacy Committee, Student Involvement, Role Identity, COVID-19 impacts on college athletics, Academic Majors, Clustering, Student-Athlete Development, Mental Health and Well-Being. Athletics. Dr. Hancock is an avid runner, attempting to run a half marathon in every state in the United States of America, she has completed over twenty states so far.
