Dr. Beverly Edwards

MSW Program Director, Associate Professor

Dr. Beverly Edwards is the MSW Program Director and an Associate Professor of Social Work in the School of Social Work at Fayetteville State University. She earned her PhD in Social Work Planning, Administration & Social Science from Clark Atlanta University, her Master's of Social Work degree from The Ohio State University with a concentration in Clinical Social Work from The Ohio State University, and her Bachelor's of Social Work degree from Jackson State University. Dr. Edwards has worked at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels of social work practice with children and families, substance abuse intervention, and policy implementation and development. These experiences in the social work profession have spanned decades as Dr. Edwards has worked in the human service delivery field with children and families specifically as well as in policy development and implementation in this same arena.

Additionally, Dr. Edwards has worked as a master level professional social worker in Substance Abuse counseling with African American women and children. Her research interests include social work ethics and rural practice, health disparities, spirituality, and issues impacting people of color. She has authored a number of publications such as The Role of Spirituality in Fostering Resilience in African American Children: Implications for Social Work Practice, Field experiences in Breast Cancer Research among African American Women, Findings of a Study Exploring Homeless Street females in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: A Need for Community Based Programs, and Ethical Decision-Making Models in Resolving Ethical Dilemmas in Rural Practice: Implications for Social Work Practice and Education. She teaches in both the MSW and BSW degree programs. Her classes include micro, mezzo, and macro social work practice courses, Ethics, and Substance Abuse.
