Graduate Admissions
As a graduate student, you already hold a baccalaureate degree and are now continuing your academic journey through a doctoral program, master’s program, graduate-level certificate, teacher licensure, or professional development. For those committed to advancing to the top of their fields, Fayetteville State University provides nine master’s degree programs, one doctoral program, and a variety of certificates and licensure pathways designed to help you lead the way.
Steps to apply

- Decide on your program and semester.
- First, select which graduate program you want (master’s, doctoral, certificate, licensure, etc).
- Some programs may have specific deadlines or admit only in certain semesters.
- Create an account & complete the online application.
- Go to FSU’s Graduate Admissions Portal Gradapply and create an account.
- Fill out all required personal information, program selection, and submit the application.
- Submit required materials.
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities you attended.
- Letters of recommendation — number and type vary based on the program.
- For some programs require: test scores (e.g., GRE, GMAT, or MAT), unless waived or not required.
- Additional program-specific materials: personal statement / statement of purpose; resume/CV; writing sample; maybe an interview or portfolio — depending on the degree program.
- If international — additional credentials/evaluation, English-proficiency proof, etc.
- Pay the application fee.
- The online application requires a $50 non-refundable application fee upon submission.

- Monitor your application status & submit any further required documents.
- After you apply, you can log in to the Graduate Admission Portal to check which materials are received and what remains outstanding.
- Make sure all required items (transcripts, test scores, recommendations, statements, etc.) are submitted by the deadline.
- Wait for admission decision.
- Once your complete application is submitted, the university and the academic department will review your materials. Admission is typically a two-step evaluation: first by the admissions office for eligibility, then by the department for program admissibility
- You will be notified when a decision is made, and you can also view the decision on the Gradapply portal.
