Tips for Being Successful Online
The following are the traits and skills that are either necessary or highly recommended for completing online courses:
- Persistence: be able to tolerate and adapt to technical problems; seek help when needed, work daily on course tasks, and persist through challenges.
- Good Time Management: Develop good time management skills: don't procrastinate; set a study schedule and stick to it; be able to complete assignments independently without daily reminders from your professor.
- Communication: Communicate effectively and appropriately with your professors, classmates, and university staff.
- Basic Technical Skills: create new documents; use word processing programs; navigate the Internet, download software, and use Canvas proficiently.
- Reading and Writing Skills: Hone your reading and writing skills: be able to read a lot of documents from a screen; be prepared to complete many writing assignments. How is your typing?
- Motivation: Develop and hone your internal motivation to get things done.
