Fayetteville State Brings the Bronco Experience to Fayetteville Technical Community College to Expand Transfer Opportunities
The Trojans to Broncos event highlighted FSU’s commitment to affordability, access, and support for North Carolina community college students.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Fayetteville State University brought the Bronco experience to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Oct. 7, transforming the Tony Rand Student Center into a sea of Bronco blue for FSU Day. The “Trojans to Broncos” event invited students to explore degree pathways, connect with FSU representatives, and learn how to transfer from an associate program to a four-year degree at Fayetteville State.
A major focus of the event was the Bronco Benefit Transfer Initiative, which guarantees admission to Fayetteville State for students who graduate with an approved associate degree from FTCC, Bladen, Sandhills, or Wake Technical Community College and meet the university’s GPA requirements.
The initiative also addresses common barriers to transfer by waiving application fees, providing early advising, offering scholarship opportunities, and connecting students with important resources.
Pamela Baldwin, Ed.D., vice chancellor for Strategic Enrollment and Student Success, said the Bronco Benefit is a clear example of FSU’s values in action.
“At FSU, we are dedicated to student success,” she said. “We strive to eliminate roadblocks and elevate the student experience from start to finish. The Bronco Benefit Transfer Initiative is a testament to this promise, providing intentional, clear pathways for our transfer students and adult learners to complete their degrees and become active, contributing members of our community.”
That dedication is also reflected in the FTCC Keen Scholarship, established in 2022 by Chancellor Darrell T. Allison and named after former FTCC President Larry Keen, Ed.D. The scholarship is available to FTCC graduates who have earned an associate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and who meet all FSU admission requirements. It is specifically aimed at supporting students pursuing high-demand fields such as nursing, business analytics, intelligence studies, and cybersecurity.

Beyond scholarships, collaboration between FSU and the community college has resulted in a strong support system to help students stay on track for the next step in their education. Brittany Mundy, executive director for Adult Learners, Transfer, and Military Students, notes that many students at the college juggle work, family, and classes. To help meet these challenges, the university offers both special events like FSU Day and everyday assistance on campus.
Students benefit from a full-time FSU academic advisor based at the college, who helps them plan degree paths, review transfer credits, and prepare for university-level coursework. This ongoing support ensures that students have the resources they need whenever they need them.
For FTCC cybersecurity student Jamarie Delgado, the direct support she received at the FSU Day event made all the difference. Having moved from Puerto Rico to Fayetteville, Delgado said she found clarity and confidence after speaking with FSU representatives who helped her identify programs that align with her Space Force goals.
“I wasn’t sure [about where to transfer],” she said. “But now I can really see myself as a Bronco.”
The event closed with an invitation for students to attend FSU’s upcoming Fall Open House on Nov. 1 at the Seabrook Auditorium. Participants can tour the campus, meet faculty and current students, and receive complimentary tickets to the afternoon football game against the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University.
