Study Abroad

Explore the World. Expand Your Future.

At Fayetteville State University, we believe that learning should extend beyond the classroom. Study abroad gives you the opportunity to experience the world, engage with new cultures, develop global perspectives, and discover possibilities you may never have imagined.

Whether you spend a semester studying at an international partner university, participate in a faculty-led program, or join a short-term international experience, studying abroad can become one of the most transformative experiences of your college career.

Why Study Abroad?

Studying abroad is more than traveling—it is an opportunity to learn, grow, and see the world from a new perspective.

Through international experiences, FSU students can:

  • Experience new cultures and build meaningful connections with people around the world.
  • Earn academic credit while learning in new and exciting environments.
  • Develop language and intercultural communication skills.
  •  Build skills valued by employers, including adaptability, independence, problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication.
  • Gain confidence and independence by navigating new places and experiences.
  • Develop a global perspective that can enrich your academic, professional, and personal life.
  •  Build an international network of friends, classmates, faculty, and future colleagues.

From Europe and Asia to Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America, your FSU education can take you far beyond campus.

Your Global Experience Starts Here

FSU students have participated in international programs and traveled to destinations around the world through university-sponsored and partner programs.

International Internships and Experiential Learning
Gain practical experience in an international setting while developing skills that can strengthen your résumé and career preparation.

Faculty & Global Learning

FSU's commitment to international education extends beyond student mobility. The university supports opportunities for faculty to teach, conduct research, collaborate with international colleagues, and develop globally focused courses and curricula.

Faculty partnerships with international institutions create new opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with the world beyond FSU.

The Office of International Education works with colleges, departments, faculty, and staff to develop international programs and pursue funding opportunities that expand access to global learning.

Scholarships & Funding

Don't let cost keep you from exploring the world.

A variety of national scholarships and fellowships can help students finance international study and language learning opportunities. Students can also adjust and use their financial aid to travel abroad. Students should begin researching funding opportunities early and work with the Office of International Education to identify programs for which they may be eligible.

  • Boren Scholarship Program — Funding opportunities for undergraduate students interested in studying less commonly taught languages and areas of the world important to U.S. interests.
  • Boren Fellowship Program — Graduate-level funding for intensive international study and language learning.
  • Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program — An intensive overseas language-learning opportunity for eligible U.S. undergraduate students.
  • Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship — Scholarships designed to help undergraduate students with financial need participate in credit-bearing study abroad programs.

International Opportunities

Your international education can continue long after your study abroad experience. FSU students can explore opportunities such as:

  • Fulbright Programs
  • Peace Corps
  • International internships
  • International research
  • Language study
  • Graduate fellowships
  • International service-learning
