What We Offer

Our goal is to provide advanced training for work as applied social scientist outside of academia, as in government administrative jobs, research departments, or community programs. Some of our students also go on to teach at community colleges. The Department offers the 30-credit Online M.A. program in Sociology in a non-thesis format.

Admission Requirements
  • No GRE scores required
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 on 4.0 scale in either all undergraduate coursework or the last 60 hours of the coursework.
  • Official transcripts from all universities or colleges at which courses have been taken.
  • A statement of purpose expressing applicant’s academic interest in pursuing a graduate degree in sociology and future career plans. Limit its length to no more than two single-spaced pages.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors. However, if an applicant is out of school for more than five years and cannot provide academic references, letters from a supervisor and a colleague at work who can speak to applicant’s ability to do graduate work will be accepted.

Online Master of Arts in Sociology Program

The Master of Arts in Sociology (MA Sociology) program is a fully accredited, fully online, non-thesis degree.  The 30-credit hour program is designed for working professionals who desire to pursue graduate studies in sociology.  Successful completion of coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for degree attainment.
