Minor Programs

Health (18 credits)

The 18-credit hour health minor is designed for undergraduate students wishing to pursue careers in health-related professions and for students wishing to gain in-depth knowledge in various contemporary health-related topics for their own personal development. The minor provides students with theories, concepts, and practical skills concerning health behavior and includes a practicum to apply theory to practice.

Public Health (18 credits)

Health professionals can have a major impact on the lives of individuals and in the communities they touch. Because of the importance of health to everyone, people with a background in this field often feel they can contribute meaningfully to the world and report fulfilling careers. Whether maintaining their own well-being or promoting healthy behavior in others, an education in health gives students the tools to make healthy decisions for a lifetime. A Minor in Public Health provides a basic foundation for students who desire preparation in health promotion, health education, health behavior and disease prevention.

Pre-Athletic Training (29 credits)

The minor in Pre-Athletic Training will create a pathway for students preparing for graduate programs in Athletic Training as well as gain the skills needed to succeed in other related athletic health care fields. Requirements for the pre-athletic training minor are based on the prerequisite courses required for acceptance into Master’s level Athletic Training Programs. Several required courses can serve for both university core and minor requirements. A minor in Pre-Athletic Training will not allow a student to sit for the Board of Certification exam or to become licensed to practice as an athletic trainer.

Sport Management (18 credits)

The Sport Management minor is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the sports industry. Throughout this minor, students will delve into segments of the sports world, gaining insights into potential career paths within the field. Emphasizing hands-on experience, the curriculum focuses on the design, planning, and implementation of real-world sports events, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. With these skills, you will be prepared for a variety of careers involving marketing, sport and team management, coaching, and community relations.
